Thank you to everyone who braved the apocalyptic weather forecasts that were being predicted for today and came out to our Liberty’s Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre Photo Day. On the day we actually enjoyed warm, dry and occasionally sunny weather except for a 5 minute misting in the late morning with no proper rain falling on us through out the day.
We started the day with a selection of owls and smaller birds out in the Flying Field, including a Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Southern White faced Owl, Kestrel and a Peregrine Falcon. The new “props” that have been built by Geoff Newland and Jayson from Liberty’s Centre added a welcome variety of photographic set pieces including this picture of a barn owl looking around from his window on the newly constructed log cabin.
At this time of year we usually have a variety of chicks and owlets at the Centre, and this year we seem to have a bumper crop of babies which stole the show with their sheer “cuteness” and amusing antics. Our Falconer, Matt, had his hands full retrieving baby owls from under hedges, behind benches and cuddled up to people – to be honest we could probably have spent the whole day photographing just the babies.
After Lunch we finished off with some more birds, including a very grumpy Bald Eagle who took a liking to Matt’s glove and proudly took it back to her perch after her photo session as her “kill” and only gave it back in return for a bit of chicken before ending with some of the reptiles that are kept at the Centre including this magnificent Panther Chameleon.
All in all a very varied and fun day!
